Back in October, showrunner Matt Olmstead left the show amid creative challenges, which shifted the show off of the fall schedule.

The network announced in December that The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken had come aboard to step in as showrunner, after serving as showrunner on Empire.

McDermott joined the cast last week with Taylor coming aboard this week, though it’s unclear when production will get started.

Meloni starred alongside Hargitay on SVU from the beginning in 1999, with the detectives rapport making them one of the most dynamic duos on television.

SVU is now in its 22nd season, the longest-running live-action primetime program in television history.

NBC and Dick Wolf Productions signed a new five-year deal back in February 2020, which included unprecedented three-season renewals for SVU along with Wolf’s trio of Windy City shows – Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med.
