Bindi Irwin says her late father Steve would have made a ‘good grandpa’

Pregnant Bindi Irwin says her late father Steve would have made a ‘good grandpa’ and she wishes he was still around to see her be a mother during incredibly emotional interview

Bindi Irwin believes her late father would have been a ‘good grandpa’.

The 22-year-old is currently expecting her first child, a daughter, with her husband Chandler Powell, and said she wishes her father Steve Irwin – who passed away in 2006 after being pierced in the heart by a stingray barb whilst filming a documentary – was still around to see her become a mother.

She said: ‘[Dad] would’ve been a good grandpa. I don’t think we would’ve ever seen our daughter. He would’ve just whisked her away into the zoo and it would’ve been perfect.’

And her mother, Terri Irwin, agreed, saying Steve would be ‘over the moon’ about the impending arrival.

She added: ‘He’d be over the moon. I will say one thing for sure is you would never have to wonder what he would’ve worn during any of the milestones. He would’ve worn khaki to the wedding, khaki to everything.’

Bindi also insisted she won’t let her father’s legacy die, as she plans on introducing her daughter to his plethora of television work – including the Crocodile Hunter series – when she’s old enough.
