Sia apologizes and says she’s editing and adding warning to her film MUSIC amid controversy over restraint scenes
Singer Sia apologized over a series of scenes depicting the use of restraints on autistic people in her upcoming movie Music, later saying she would edit the scenes out of all future printings of the motion picture.
Amid blowback over the scenes, the Australia native, 45, took to Twitter and said she was absorbing the feedback and moving forward accordingly.
‘I promise, have been listening,’ the Cheap Thrills artist said. ‘The motion picture MUSIC will, moving forward, have this warning at the head of the movie: MUSIC in no way condones or recommends the use of restraint on autistic people.’

The statement continued: ‘There are autistic occupational therapists that specialize in sensory processing who can be consulted to explain safe ways to provide proprioceptive, deep-pressure feedback to help w meltdown safety.’
The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter also retweeted a response from a fan under the handle The Autistic Educator that read: ‘You’re forgiven by me at least. I still LOVE your music, but I can’t watch your movie as the restraint scenes will trigger me. I KNOW you’re a good person, you have realised you need to be more aware and that’s a REALLY good start. You can really help us now. You listened!’
The Elastic Heart artist, whose real name is Sia Kate Isobelle Furler, replied in response she planned ‘to remove the restraint scenes from all future printings’ of the film, which stars Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr. and Maddie Ziegler.
‘I listened to the wrong people and that is my responsibility, my research was clearly not thorough enough, not wide enough,’ the Adelaide-born musical artist said of her decision to edit the film accordingly.

She received mixed feedback from fans over the way she dealt with the issues related to the film.
One fan said, ‘Better to apologise than attack – glad to see. As with any film or art we need to see it first to judge. Representation doesn’t have to be perfect, just the fact that this conversation is happening is positive for a marginalised and misunderstood group.’

Another fan expressed disappointment over the movie, which has garnered a pair of Golden Globe nominations.
The fan wrote: ‘Oh Sia…..you’ve broken the hearts of so many autistic people. Please pull the movie. This isn’t right and you know it. If you care about us, love us,are truly listening to us. Don’t let this movie go on anymore. You used to mean so much to me.’
