Pregnant Mandy Moore reveals she’s had to ‘alter’ her birth plan after platelets ‘drop exponentially’

She’s preparing to give birth to her first child soon.

And on Wednesday, Mandy Moore shared with her Instagram followers that there’s had to be a change as her due date draws near.

The This Is Us star, 36, posted to her Instagram Story that her platelet count has dropped ‘exponentially’ and this has ‘altered’ her initial birth plan.

Like most pregnant women, Moore has been having weekly visits to the hematologist to get blood work done.

She shared a selfie from the clinic in which she’s seen wearing a face mask and dressed in a pretty blue patterned frock.

She wrote over the image: ‘Weekly platelet check at the hematologist. My platelets have dropped exponentially during pregnancy and it’s sadly altered my birth “plan”.

‘Any other pregnant folks in the same boat?’ she asked.

She didn’t explain in what way the diagnosis has changed her planned delivery.

About one in 10 pregnant women will experience a drop in platelets – which help the blood to clot – during pregnancy.

If the count drops below normal, then it’s known as gestational thrombocytopenia.

Like many celebrities, the actress and singer has been sharing her pregnancy journey on social media and in interviews.

She announced she and husband Taylor Goldsmith were expecting their first child in September and the couple, who married in 2018, have revealed that they are having a boy.

Last month, Moore spoke to Romper about her fear she couldn’t get pregnant naturally and how she’d consulted a fertility expert after failing to conceive.

‘I was fully prepared to go have surgery and fix my uterus and hopefully get rid of the endometriosis, if it was there,’ she explained. ‘It was nice to have a plan and to know ‘Okay, well this is why I haven’t been pregnant yet’.’

But then she suddenly found herself pregnant.

‘Because of this issue with my uterus, I was very hesitant to believe it and put any stock in it,’ Moore shared in the interview.

‘I sort of was holding my breath until 12 weeks.’
