Natalie Portman reveals why she will NEVER join Facebook – despite going to university with its founder Mark Zuckerberg

She may have 7.3million followers on Instagram, but Natalie Portman has no plans to open an account on Facebook.

During an interview with Australian talk show The Project Tuesday, the Hollywood star, 39, explained that she believes Facebook has a long way to go when it comes to filtering out fake news.

‘You know, Facebook started at school when I was there [from 1999 to 2003]. I didn’t join when I was there and I haven’t joined since,’ she told interviewer Lisa Wilkinson.

The mother-of-two, who attended Harvard University with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, also claimed that the social network needs to take more responsibility for the kind of content posted on its platform.

‘In terms of that they are kind of publishing platforms, that they are presenting information that people are taking as fact,’ she explained.

Ironically, Natalie has a personal connection to Facebook, having studied alongside its founder Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard University.

Access denied: Natalie Portman, 39, (pictured) told The Project’s Lisa Wilkinson on Tuesday night  that she doesn’t use Facebook because she has a problem with the way information is presented

Speaking to People magazine in January last year, Natalie said she feels ‘thankful’ to have grown up in a world without social media.

‘I was really able to go about my business and not have it documented for public consumption. Which was really lucky,’ she said.

‘Because, guess what? It’s good to like, make mistakes and do stupid things when you’re a teenager and young adult and not have it hunt you forever,’ Natalie added.

The superstar is currently living in Sydney to film Thor: Love and Thunder.

The film will see Natalie’s character, astrophysicist Jane Foster, take up the mantle of Thor after transforming into a female version of the Norse god.

She relocated to Australia late last year with her husband Benjamin Millepied and their two children – son Aleph, nine, and daughter Amalia, four.
