Drew Barrymore went into her major interview with Tom Green with no idea what she’d say to him, she said Tuesday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The 45-year-old actress hadn’t spoken to her ex in 15 years before recently inviting him on her talk show, but was intent on making their reunion as authentic as possible.
‘There was no questions prepared for that,’ Drew told Jimmy, 46, who called it his ‘favorite interview’ of hers.

‘I had an offline conversation with him, because we didn’t want it to be some bougie Hollywood moment, like ”Let’s reconnect in front of the cameras.” That said, the thing I love about Tom is he is one of the first people to have put a camera on his life, when it was a giant fat camcorder and there were no easy phones available.’
Drew first met the Canadian comedian and actor in the 1990s when he was a big star on MTV with The Tom Green Show, and she used to watch his VHS tapes at home.
The pair was married from July to December 2001, and cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for their divorce.
Drew has been married three times, the last time to Will Kopelman, the son of former Chanel COO Arnie Kopelman and father of her two daughters, from whom she split in 2016.

Pleasant memories of her relationship with Tom, 49, emboldened her to call him, she remembered.
Drew said she simply asked him, ”Gosh, would you want to reconnect? I feel like it’s been a long time, and I would just love to honor what you did. You broke down all these doors; you were a pioneer, and I would love to talk about it and have it be an excuse for us to say hello.” I sent him a video and he sent me one back, and immediately he made me laugh,’ she added. ‘And that’s my Kryptonite, laughter.’
Jimmy praised the emotional interview that resulted, saying, ‘It was good, it was different, it was fresh and it was raw. I thought that was fascinating. I loved it.’

‘That means a lot coming from you,’ Drew replied. ‘I think we’re some of the least ”gotcha!” type of people, and I don’t like doing it, I don’t want it done to me and it’s just not my wheelhouse. I just wanted to have a lot of dignity and a gentle moment. And it was nice to hear from a lot of people saying, ”I’d like to have that with someone from my past”.’

In actuality, Cameron was in Los Angeles, while Lucy was in the New York City studio itself and they used a trick of technology that even Oprah Winfrey had praised, to Drew’s delight.
‘I’m glad that we can all embrace this,’ Drew said, considering how wonderful it was to be live on set being interviewed. ‘This used to be so status quo and no one thought about this. And now to have a live person, some people, we’re so happy.’
Drew told Jimmy that as a talk show host, she often had to try out different approaches.

She said she’d just started ending her program with a learning segment called ‘Doggy Bag,’ which offered viewers something to ‘take with them’ after it was over.
‘I personally could live a very happy life if I was a personal curator,’ Drew explained, calling her show ‘a mood board, a curation’ and a way to introduce great people to the world.
Drew then played Mad Lib Theater with Jimmy, filling out a Mad Lib sheet with random words and acting out a relaxing meditation scene by teleprompter.
