New mother Ashley James debunks advice given by fellow mums

New mother Ashley James reveals she is ‘sleeping better, having daily baths and loving waking in the night’ three weeks after giving birth… as she debunks advice given by fellow mums

Ashley James had given candid insight into life as a new mother, after welcoming her son Alfie Rivers Andrews to the world last month.

Marking three weeks since giving birth, the Made In Chelsea star, 33, shared a sweet snap of the tot alongside a lengthy caption detailing life with a newborn as well as the myths she has debunked from warning mothers prior to his arrival.

She delighted in spending time offline after the birth but admitted she is excited to return to Instagram, as she then confirmed the whole process of motherhood had so far been ‘a total joy; and ‘better than expected’.

Ashley, who shares her son with her boyfriend Tom Andrews, spent much of her pregnancy lashing out at those who dished out unsolicited advice.

Often discussing the ‘Just you wait…’ brigade, she returned to Instagram to list the various things she was warned over but has managed to still do.

Among the list was her daily bath, her love for her dog Snoop and her ability to still have hot drinks – as many mums say their drink goes cold due to busyness.

She wrote: ‘Here’s some things I still do that I was told wouldn’t happen:

‘I sleep better now than when I was pregnant. He sleeps so well, even though I’m sure there’ll be bad night’s ahead. Plus, waking up in the night is a total joy!…

‘It’s so much nicer to be awake for a tiny human, than to be awake with anxiety stuck in an internet hole. I still drink hot cups of tea and coffee. I have a bath everyday.

‘I still love Snoop just as much – more if anything seeing how good he is with Alf. (I genuinely feared not loving him as much). I mean, every baby is different (and will change). But I hope my experience reassure any scared mums to be out there.

‘Here’s some things about Alf: He loves BOOBY. He loves to cuddle one of us while he sleeps. He really loves looking at art. He loves splish splashing in the bath – I knew he’d be a water baby. Living up to his middle name!…

‘He’s not the biggest fan of nappy changes. So! Who do you think he looks like? Although you can’t see his baby blues here.’

‘I wanted to introduce you guys to my baby boy. He’s now 3 weeks and 3 days old – time has gone so quickly since he came into the world. I’m probably the only person who felt like January went quickly.

‘It felt good to take some time offline over the past month! But there’s so much I want to share with you guys: from the last few weeks of pregnancy, to childbirth, to breastfeeding. I don’t even know where to start!

So I thought I’d just say this: so far the whole process has been a total joy. Better than I expected actually. I made no secret of the fact I wasn’t maternal, so I kind of worried a bit that I wouldn’t have a connection or something…

‘Anyway, I needn’t have worried at all. He’s just amazing. Also, you hear so many negative stories, we really didn’t know how much life was going to change when we brought him home…

‘I mean, obviously life has already changed so much with lockdown, so it’s not like we’re living normal life anyway, so maybe the transition doesn’t feel so vast?’
