Matthew McConaughey shown in flat form in Doritos 3D Crunch commercial for Super Bowl

Matthew McConaughey is seen in flat form in a Doritos 3D Crunch commercial made to air during Sunday’s Super Bowl.

In the advertisement, the 51-year-old A-lister is seen in a number of complicated circumstances resulting from his newfound physical form, as he’s flat as a piece of paper trying to drive in a convertible, toss a football with a friend, and walk his dog.

He’s seen appearing on Jimmy Kimmel‘s talk show with guest Mindy Kaling, where Kimmel asks him, ‘Did you drive here, or did you travel by fax?’

At the end of the ad, the Texas native slinks into a vending machine packed with Doritos 3D Crunch chips, and is restored to his regular size after a bite – albeit stuck in the machine.

The clip is scored to the Queen song I Want to Break Free.

The ad campaign, which has been branded with the #FlatMatthew hasgtag, was made by Frito-Lay’s creative firm Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, AdAge reported.

‘We pride ourselves on Doritos Super Bowl commercials bringing smiles to fans’ faces each and every year,’ Frito-Lay North America senior vice president and chief marketing officer Rachel Ferdinando said in a news release, adding the company’s ‘confident that this year’s #FlatMatthew campaign will deliver once again.’

In support of the revived product, which initially came out in 1998, Doritos is also running adjacent #FlatMatthew promotions with Snapchat, TikTok, Google Cardboard and Amazon Prime.

McConaughey, who won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2014 for Dallas Buyers Club, is one in a number of famous faces enlisted for advertisements to air during the widely-watched game. 

Other celebs confirmed for spots are Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher for Cheetos, and Mike Myers and Dana Carvey reviving their Wayne’s World characters for Uber Eats.

Super Bowl LV, pitting the Kansas City Chiefs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is set to commence from Tampa, Florida February 7 at 6:30 p.m. ET/ 3:30 p.m. PT.
