The Office is being watched more on Peacock than when it was on Netflix… as fans flock to new streaming service

Nearly eight years after its successful run on primetime TV, and The Office is still a force to be reckoned with when it comes to viewerships and the bottomline.

And now there’s word that the hit sitcom has been garnering more viewers on NBC’s streaming service Peacock than it did when it was on Netflix, according to Deadline.

The Office, which starred original castmembers Steve Carrel, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and B. J. Novak, was brought back to the NBCU from Netflix in a $500 million licensing deal.

Still reigning: The Office is streaming more on Peacock than it did when it garnered big numbers on Netflix, according NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell, via Deadline

The Office wrapped up its run on Netflix in 2020 with some massive number: 57.1 billion total minutes of viewing, which made it the top streamed show in the U.S, according to Nielsen.

Speaking during Comcast’s fourth-quarter earnings call, NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell revealed that The Office is not only still reigning with subscribers, it’s also having an affect on the viewership of other shows on the platform.

‘We’re seeing people who are watching The Office on Peacock are watching lots of our other comedies,’ Shell said.

‘It’s really driving Parks & Recreation and really driving Brooklyn Nine-Nine, amongst others. So, it’s kind of an ecosystem.’

Shell went on to add that the dynamics are ‘like broadcast, where we can cross-promote people into different things. That certainly seems to be working.’

Peacock only just joined the growing field of streaming services last year.

Just six months after going national, Comcast said Peacock had 33 million sign-ups as of this week and brought in $100 million in revenue during the fourth quarter, which ended on December 31.

But still losses on Peacock were estimated to be $2 billion for the 2020 and 2021, which matched projections before its launch, said CFO Mike Cavanagh.
