Alec Baldwin breaks social media silence to share birthday tribute to the late ‘prince’ Paul Newman

Alec Baldwin broke his social media silence on Tuesday to share a tribute to the late great Paul Newman on what would’ve been his 96th birthday.

‘You see this guy? This guy was a prince. Literally. He was Hollywood royalty and damn the cliche,’ the 62-year-old Oscar nominee – who boasts 3M Instagram/Twitter followers – wrote.

‘He was a leading man in so many films it was crazy. Always sexy, always smart, always smooth, always soulful…He married an amazing woman. An amazing actress. They were, are, the greatest of partners.

Alec singled out the three-time Oscar winner’s ‘greatest’ work as lawyer Frank Galvin in Sidney Lumet’s 1982 drama The Verdict, which he said everyone should see ‘before you die.’

Paul is also famed for his work in classics like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and The Sting.

Newman – who also drove race cars – finished his career in blockbusters like The Color of Money, Road to Perdition, and Pixar’s Cars.

The Emmy winner was a married father-of-three when he met his second wife Joanne Woodward in 1953 in Broadway’s Picnic and they wed in 1958 after co-starring in The Long, Hot Summer.

Paul and the 90-year-old Oscar winner went on to have three children and remained married until his death, at age 83, from lung cancer in 2008.

Aside from promoting his weekly podcast Here’s The Thing, Baldwin hasn’t used Twitter since January 18 because of his second wife Hillary ‘Hilaria’ Thomas’ Spanish scandal.

The New York native and the 36-year-old culture vulture are laying low in their 18th-century farmhouse in East Hampton with their five children and two nannies.

As recent as October, Alec told Aaron and Rohit’s Hopeless Show ‘my wife is from Spain’ and he said the same on Late Show with David Letterman in 2013.

Baldwin will next reprise his role as voice hedge fund CEO Theodore Templeton in The Boss Baby: Family Business, which hits US/UK theaters on March 26.
