Elly Miles is slammed for sharing an ‘Invasion Day’ message before attending a wild pool party

The Bachelorette‘s Elly Miles has been called out for promoting a seemingly contradictory message about Australia Day.

On Tuesday morning, the Bondi influencer, 26, uploaded a video of herself delivering a sombre speech about how painful Australia Day can be for Indigenous people, before sharing a photo of herself attending an ‘Invasion Day’ protest in Sydney.

Just hours later, however, the nurse raised eyebrows by documenting herself attending a boozy Australia Day pool party.

The rather tone deaf sequence of events wasn’t lost on Elly’ fans, many of whom accused her of being a hypocrite.

‘Just a little contradicting and confusing to be posting about your support with changing the date and then heading to what one can assume would be an Australia Day party… as it’a a party on Australia

‘It is very upsetting to see you post a change the date post on this day of mourning, yet you go to an Australia Day party the same day. This is so disappointing and beyond tone deaf,’ one unhappy follower wrote on Elly’s Instagram page.

Other followers accused Elly of feigning empathy for Indigenous people to improve her public image as an influencer.

‘Your manager must have reminded you to give some lip service and a quick pic and then off to get blind and party. Performative influencers,’ one fan grumbled.

Another agreed: ‘I feel like these influencers say something about it just to say they did. Maybe because they’ll cop s**t if they don’t?’

In her speech on Tuesday morning, Elly zealously told fans that ‘iIt would just be so good if we could change the date,’ and insisted she’d love ‘everybody in Australia to celebrate Australia on a day that isn’t severely traumatic and awful for our Indigenous cultures.’

The blonde boasted that she’s gone out of her way to start ‘conversations’ with her ‘Indigenous friends’ about what Invasion Day means.

‘If you feel like you don’t know enough, have a conversation. Like start a conversation, that’s how my view has changed,’ she preached.

‘Because, growing up I had celebrated Australia Day but I just didn’t know any better. And it took me to have conversations with some Indigenous friends and work colleagues for me to truly understand the meaning of the day for Indigenous culture, and it’s not good,’ Elly added.
