Police remained outside a property where an 11-year-old boy was found unwell on Friday night. He was rushed to hospital but died shortly after. A man, 32, from Lincoln, has been arrested on suspicion of murder

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Myszczyszyn, of East Midlands Special Operations Unit’s Major Crime Unit, said: ‘This is a really tragic incident and my thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of this young boy.

‘We have a number of inquiries that are ongoing and we’re working hard to establish exactly what caused his death, but I am confident that this is an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public.

‘This is a shocking and sad case and I appreciate our local communities will be concerned about what has happened and I want to make clear that we are working diligently through the details of this incident and have a number of officers devoted to the investigation.’

Officers were today parked outside a semi-detached house on Geneva Avenue.

The 1930s redbrick property – located just a mile from central Lincoln and the city’s Norman cathedral – has been taped off with two police cars outside.

A black estate car remains on the drive, and the upstairs curtains have been drawn.

Local residents confirmed there had been a large police presence in the area on Friday night.

One said: ‘I was about to go to bed when I heard the sirens and saw lots of police cars.

Another neighbour said he believed a family lived at the house, but he added: ‘I don’t know them well.’

Another Lincoln resident said his sister helped to give the boy CPR after a little girl was heard screaming in the street.
