‘It creeps up on you’: Gabby Logan discusses fighting off weight gain in lockdown and admits it takes more than ‘one run’ to burn it off

Gabby Logan has admitted weight can ‘creep up on you’ and she knows she’ll need more than ‘one run’ to burn it off.

The sports pundit, 47, appeared on Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain and joked with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid about putting on weight during lockdown.

Referencing Piers’ recent appearance on her podcast, Gabby said: ‘It creeps up on you, that was the point Piers, wasn’t it? It can creep up on you.

‘Susanna, like you, I know now if I have a good Christmas, it’s not all going to come off on one run.’

Former rhythmic gymnast Gabby is known for her love of fitness and often posts her workouts on social media.

The Final Score host discussed Piers saying: ‘Susanna and I have never been heavier’ during a recent episode of her podcast.

However, Susanna insisted she wasn’t offended by the remark after listening to the episode ‘from start to finish’.

Opening the show, Susanna playfully said: ‘Good morning. Why do I look twice the size of you this morning? Is it because I am overweight?’

Piers replied: ‘Oh Susanna, how modest of you. Today I’m playing the modesty card because of course…’

Before the host could finish his sentence, Susanna interrupted: ‘Piers fat-shamed me at the weekend, apparently you called me overweight.

‘Actually what I was going to say was I do look enormous compared to you but you posted a picture at the weekend on your Instagram of you with a massive head.

As the picture of Piers with a big head flashed up on screen, Susanna joked: ‘Lockdown has not been kind to us’.

Piers continued: ‘I apparently caused a fat storm by telling a podcast, “Susanna and I have never been heavier”.

In the podcast Piers said: ‘Susanna and I have never been heavier. I’m about 16st and I’m 6’1. I’m hovering on that BMI near what would be classified as obesity.

‘I don’t want to get there – I want to get down below 100 kilos. And it’s not going to be easy.’

Elsewhere, Gabby discussed the Tokyo Olympics being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as participants potentially being given the vaccine.

She said: ‘I can’t see how globally, that could be carried out. Nations who aren’t as wealthy and would be sending descent sized cohorts to the Olympic games, their vaccine programmes aren’t up and running yet.

‘I’m not sure you could have that completely egalitarian process through the Olympic games. We’re not that far away now for having to make some decision.’

Gabby expressed dismay that the Olympics had to be delayed from 2020, pointing out it will be many participants final chance to take part.

She said: ‘They’ve already put it off another year. For those athletes, it’s huge. It’s potential sponsorship, it’s deals that keep them going. They’re not paid the same as premiere league footballers.’
