‘I hit a few complications’: Kym Marsh appears on Morning Live from her bed following hernia surgery

Kym Marsh appeared on Monday’s episode of Morning Live from her bed after having surgery over the weekend.

The presenter, 44, usually presents alongside co-host Gethin Jones in studio but is currently recovering from having an operation on two hernias.

Kym told Getin and Dr Xand the surgery ended up being more complicated than doctors thought so she had to stay overnight in the hospital.

Informing viewers Kym wouldn’t in studio with him, Gethin said: ‘Kym can’t join us this week, but I’m pleased to say we can catch up with her first now… wow! We’re going live into Kym Marsh’s bedroom, how exciting.’

Kym explained: I’m ok, I’m recovering. It turned out to be slightly more than they thought it was going to be. So to clear up… I do have a hiatus hernia but that wasn’t the operation I was having.

‘I’ve had two hernias in my groin, I thought I only had one and I ended up having two. So it’s more painful than I thought.’

Kym added: ‘What I had originally was diagnosed as an inguinal hernia which they said can be caused by sport, and I’d trained quite a lot.

‘When they went in and had a look they found what you call a femoral hernia as well, which is slightly less common.’

The former Coronation Street star reassured her co-host she is doing fine but is still ‘a bit sore’.

She said: ‘It’s more common in women, apparently, that have had children. So that was my Saturday… and I ended up having to stay overnight because I hit a few complications but I’m ok, I’m doing alright, I’m a bit sore.’

‘Weirdly, because I had it done keyhole, the pain I’m getting is where they’ve gone in with the instruments rather than the actual groin area.’

Gethin also asked Kym how she has been finding homeschooling her daughter Polly, nine, amid the third national lockdown.

Kym said: ‘I’m still trying to struggle through that, I’m sure most parents will feel my pain when I say its not been easy trying to homeschool.’

The soap star spoke further about her operation in her latest OK! magazine column.

She wrote: ‘It’s nerve-wracking being put under aesthetic, but it’s a relief to have it done and I’m hoping it won’t be long before I’m training again, as I’ve really missed it.

‘All being well, I’ll be back in the studio with Gethin from next week!’

It comes after the star recently admitted she won’t be away from the Corrie cobbles forever.

The actress, who played Michelle Connor on the ITV soap from 2006, quit in October 2019 to pursue other ventures.

But as she admitted the global pandemic took a toll on her work, Kym said she would love to ‘dip my toe back’ into Coronation Street one day.

Kym said: ‘I really do miss everyone, I really miss the street. When I left I always said I’d come back one day and I will. I just needed to get out and take a little breather and do some other things. I have no doubt that on.

But the star added that she didn’t pick the best time to pursue new ventures, explaining: ‘I have been really busy and I’ve been so fortunate, but obviously the year I left was really weird.’

‘I left in October 2019 and went straight into doing loads of other bits and bobs and I had loads of stuff planned for the year after that obviously all fell through. I thought, oh no, what a year to leave!’
