Man in his 30s is arrested after woman ‘who was known to him’ died after being stabbed at property in east London

  • Woman in 30s or 40s found unresponsive by Met Police officers this morning 
  • Police administered CPR before paramedics arrived but she died at the scene  
  • Man, believed to be aged in 30s, arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder
  • Investigators believe the deceased and arrested man were known to each other 

A man in his 30s has been arrested after a woman ‘who was known to him’ was stabbed at a property in east London and died. 

Police were called to Hadfield House in Whitechapel this morning after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman in the property. 

Officers arrived at around 8.20am and found a woman, thought to be in her 30s or 40s, who was unresponsive.

The Metropolitan Police said she is believed to have suffered a number of injuries, including stab wounds.   

Police administered CPR until paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe they know the identity of the deceased and are working to inform next of kin. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

A man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder and is in custody at an east London police station.

The deceased and the man arrested are believed to have been known to each other.

Detectives from Specialist Crime (Homicide) are investigating.
