Amazon’s store plan faces delay as developer goes bust

Opening date for Amazon’s first checkout-free store in Britain uncertain after developer at site goes bust

The opening date for Amazon’s first checkout-free store in Britain is uncertain after the developer at its Notting Hill site went bust.

The Amazon Go store near Notting Hill tube station in West London had been expected to be the first for the new venture.

Online giant Amazon is understood to have earmarked about 30 locations across the country for its initial launch.

The stores are planned to be completely contact-free and will use scanning technology to register purchases before billing customers via their Amazon accounts.

Administrators at Duff & Phelps were called in to manage the Luxx Notting Hill Gate Development collapse in September.

The developer’s interest in the property has since been sold on and it is not yet clear what remains of the original plan.

Amazon is targeting railway and Tube stations to attract commuters.

The plan for an outlet in Notting Hill first emerged last March and there had been speculation that the store could open before last Christmas. Amazon declined to comment.
