Coronation Street and Emmerdale HALT filming after crew-member tests positive for COVID-19

Coronation Street and Emmerdale HALT filming after crew-member tests positive for COVID-19… as production takes break from relentless schedule and scenes are rewritten

Filming on Coronation Street is being suspended for two weeks ‘as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic’.

ITV bosses have made the decision to halt shooting on Corrie so the cast and crew can have a short break due to the pressures of filming during the coronavirus crisis.

According to The Sun Online, several scenes will be re-written to accommodate the break and so the health and safety measures on set can be reviewed.

An ITV spokeswoman told the publication: ”Coronation Street’ will pause filming from next Monday, 25 January for two weeks to undertake some rewriting of stories and scripts as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic.

‘We will also be taking the opportunity to review all health and safety requirements to ensure we continue to provide a safe working environment for the cast, crew and production team.

‘This pause in filming won’t affect our ability to deliver six episodes of Coronation Street each week.’

ITV bosses has also decided to suspend filming on ‘Emmerdale’ following after a production team member contracted COVID-19 causing a mini outbreak. Shooting was stopped to protect everyone working on the programme and to ensure the Yorkshire set could be given a deep clean.

The cast and crew on ‘Emmerdale’ will resume work on Monday (25.01.21).

The spokeswoman added: ‘We paused filming on ‘Emmerdale’ last week due to some members of the team testing positive for COVID-19.

‘We’ve carried out proper track and trace measures on those cases and undertook intensive cleaning of the production building, whilst reinforcing the health and safety protocols we have in place. We’re returning to filming from this Monday, 25 January.

‘This pause in filming will have no impact on our ability to continue to broadcast six episodes of ‘Emmerdale’ each week.’

At the start of the pandemic last year, shooting was halted on both shows and the transmission schedule was reduced to ensure episodes could continue to air until filming resumed with new health and safety measures in place.
