Kiwi politician Simon Bridges begs government to let The Wiggles into New Zealand

Kiwi politician Simon Bridges has issued a desperate plea for The Wiggles to be let into New Zealand ahead of their national tour, after the children’s band failed to secure a spot in quarantine.  

The Australian performers were scheduled to play shows in March and April this year, were reportedly given permission to enter New Zealand last month. 

However, according to Bridges, ‘visa delays’ meant the performers can’t actually enter the country as they weren’t able to secure spots in MIQ – New Zealand’s ‘managed isolation and quarantine’ coronavirus program. 

Bridges, who has three children, revealed on Wednesday that he’d written a letter to the government begging them to make room for The Wiggles in MIQ. 

‘I’ve just drafted a letter to the powers that be asking that they do what they can so the Wiggles can do their 25 scheduled shows across NZ in March & April,’ he Tweeted, 

‘Over 40,000 tickets have already been sold,’ he added. 

Bridges went on to claim the cast and crew ‘have all approval they need’ to come into New Zealand from Australia but, ‘due to visa delays the MIQ slots that were available, aren’t anymore.’ 

The former Opposition Leader went on to disclose a tongue-in-cheek ‘conflict of interest’ – ‘that my two older children have grown up adoring The Wiggles, and my youngest child, aged three, is obsessed by them and may well go to their Tauranga concert if it happens’.

In a final Tweet, Bridges added: ‘I suspect any MP with kids under a certain age will have the same conflict.’

The Wiggles’ We’re All Fruit Salad tour is scheduled to begin on March 19.  

The band must complete a 14-day stay in MIQ before they can commence their tour, meaning they must enter quarantine by no later than March 4. 

Tickets went on sale for the tour in November last year.
