But others were more concerned about the roasted chicken, which was blown to pieces in front of the shell-shocked campmates.

‘Are there any normal days in the camp?! I think an exploding chicken is possibly the tamest thing to happen,’ wrote one viewer.

‘Blowing up a chicken carcass for entertainment is disturbing, and not in any sort of good way,’ added another.

Even Grant Denyer’s wife, Chezzi, weighed in on the drama, tweeting: ‘Possibly THE cruelest thing I have ever seen on TV that exploding CHOOK.’

Reflecting on the incident later, Jess Eva admitted she was still trying to make sense of what had transpired.

‘Such a strange day in the jungle. Seriously, if a psychic had told me a year ago, “In 12 months’ time, there shall be a cooked chook in a bird’s cage, and the guy with the moustache from Gogglebox will be lying on the ground in front of it,” I’d be like, “Oh, yeah, lady. What have you been drinking? Give me my 20 bucks back,”‘ she said.
