Denise Welch criticised by Loose Women fans after ‘defending’ stars into Dubai during pandemic

Denise Welch left some Loose Women fans very unimpressed after she attempted to defend influencers who had travelled to Dubai during the pandemic.

Speaking on Monday’s show, the panelist, 62, suggested that some of the reality stars who have jetted abroad ‘might have a mortgage and children’ to pay for.

However several viewers slammed the actress’ attempt to ‘play devil’s advocate’, saying she was ‘so out of touch’.

Denise made the comments while chatting to Charlene White, Linda Robson, and Judi Love about the hot topic of reality personalities going on ‘work trips’.

She said: ‘I think that some people are misjudging the tone of the nation and I get that.

‘But, at the same time, I think that what’s happening in the pandemic is that we’re creating a very, very, very judgemental society…

‘Because the rules have been a little bit woolly, at the moment you can’t travel except if it’s for work, but only a few weeks ago you actually could.’

Denise then continued that some of the influencers were initially following rules, but have been criticised on Facebook for their decisions to travel.

She said: ‘And those people that were adhering to the holiday rules – is that they were getting a test before they left, some of them were getting another test when they got there, and regardless of what Facebook thought about this, they were actually following the rules.’

She continued: ‘They may have a mortgage to pay, and they’ve got children. And that’s how they – I’m being a bit of a devil’s advocate here…’

Several Loose Women viewers took to Twitter after Denise made her comments, with many saying she shouldn’t try and ‘justify’ the influencers’ decision to travel.

One person wrote: ‘Influencers worth their salt, Denise, could find work promoting food, drink, make-up, beauty, pets, clothing – just steer clear of holidays for now – simple enough

‘IF you CAN work from home, you SHOULD. Do they speak a different language to rest of us? Capisce?’

‘Oh Denise no. They DO NOT need to ‘go to work’ on location to Dubai for goodness sake. They can do it in their HOME. You’re so out of touch,’ tweeted another.

And a third said: ‘Lmao Denise all these influencers have serious cash & no children pls don’t pull the devil’s advocate they need an income uwu’

Not having it: Several viewers took to Twitter to express their own thoughts, with one saying Denise was 'so out of touch' in her attempt to justify why the influencers might have travelled

While another penned: ‘How is Denise trying to justify people jetting off on NON ESSENTIAL Journeys’

Some of the other Loose Women panelists also had differing opinions, with Linda saying the influencers are ‘rubbing people’s noses in it’ by going on holiday.

She added: ‘I’m sorry, but it’s not essential to be an influencer.’

Dozens of influencers who found fame on reality shows such as Geordie Shore and Love Island have spent the previous weeks soaking up the sun in Dubai while Brits back at home are in a nationwide lockdown.

Many have travelled abroad under the ruse that their trips are ‘for work,’ sparking backlash from fans who have been holed up in lockdown amid the pandemic.

Among those who have shared glimpses of their trips to Instagram are Love Island’s Laura Anderson, Francesca Allen, Arabella Chi and twins Jess and Eve Gale.

Geordie Shore’s Chloe Ferry is also in Dubai for ‘work’ while TOWIE’s Yazmin Oukhello and her beau James Lock have also been there for some time on ‘business’.

Although at first not facing restrictions upon their return, it was recently announced that the country has been removed from the UK travel corridor amid the pandemic.

Travellers now returning to the UK from the UAE will have to quarantine following a 52 per cent surge in the number of Covid-19 cases there.

New rules that came into force on Friday require international travellers to come back negative after a PCR test before arriving in England.

Any arrivals who flout the rules will face a minimum £500 fine, while the operator who transported them will also be fined.

Passengers will still have to quarantine for 10 days regardless of their test results, transport minister Robert Courts said in a statement.
