She bid farewell to the cobbles to pursue her dreams of stardom as stylist to the band Status Quo.

And Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson has hinted she’d be open to returning to Coronation Street as hairdresser Candice Stowe.

The actress, 36, said she’d ‘never say never’ to the prospect of reprising her role despite being happy playing Maxine Minniver on the show’s Channel 4 rival.

Nikki was asked about her Corrie role during an Instagram Q and A, and responded alongside a throwback snap from her time on the show.

She wrote: ‘I’m so happy at Hollyoaks so I’ll be there for the foreseeable… but never say never.’

Nikki rose to fame when she joined Corrie in 1999 at the age of just 15, playing Sarah Platt’s best friend Candice, eventually working for Audrey Roberts as a trainee hairdresser.

Candice faced plenty of turmoil in her family life after her mum refused to believe she was being sexually harassed by her boyfriend.

Despite numberous boyfriends, including Todd Grimshaw who eventually came out as gay, Candice, failed to find love on the Street, and after six years on the soap left in 2005 to tour with Status Quo.

Nikki joined Hollyoaks in 2012 as Maxine, and has been involved in plenty of serious storylines, including being abused by her husband Patrick Blake, and claiming to have terminal cancer after suffering from Munchausen syndrome.

The actress had previously praised soap bosses for their support after she spoke about struggled with her mental health.

Nikki, who split from boyfriend Greg Whitehurst during the first lockdown, telling The Mirror: ‘It’s bad for my mental health, feeling empty, so I try to keep my mind motivated.

‘I suffered depression in my 20s and it was a very, very, bad time.

‘At Hollyoaks they email us all the time, reminding us they’re there and checking in on us. That’s hugely helpful.’
