Frankie Bridge talks being a stepmother to her beau Wayne’s son Jaydon

She is a mother of two sons – Parker, seven, and Carter, five – who she shares with her footballer husband Wayne.

And Frankie Bridge has opened up about also being a stepmother to Wayne’s eldest child Jaydon, 14, who he shares with Vanessa Perroncel.

The former Saturdays star, 32, hosted a true or false Q&A session on her Instagram on Saturday where she spoke about her role in Jaydon’s life.

Stepmum: Frankie Bridge has opened up about being a stepmother to Wayne’s eldest child Jaydon, 14, who he shares with Vanessa Perroncel

She admitted that she tries to keep Jaydon’s life ‘private’ because the teenager and his mother Vanessa are not ‘in the same industry’ as herself and Wayne.

Frankie went on to admit that she has never thought of herself as a ‘step parent’, instead saying that she is just ‘bonus family’ to the former footballer’s son.

When asked if she was a stepmother, she explained: ‘True. I am indeed. It’s not something I talk about much as him and his mum aren’t in the same industry as us.

‘So I keep that part of our life private. I’ve also never really chosen to be called a step parent. He has his parents. I’m just a bonus family! Ha.’

The mother-of-two also admitted that she doesn’t ‘feel done’ with having children but said her opinion on having another child changes on a day-to-day basis.

She gushed that her boys ‘are awesome’ but admitted that she struggles with being pregnant, meaning having another baby would be a ‘big decision’ for her.

But she hinted at her thoughts of having a third child as she revealed that she is still ‘young’ and doesn’t feel done with having children.

Frankie teased: ‘True. I don’t feel done. I’m still young. It’s a really big decision. 3 changes a lot of things.

‘I’m not good at being pregnant either .SO that alone is a big decision for me. The boys are awesome.

‘So also depends what day you ask me. When they’re awesome or when they’re being a pain in the bum!’

During the candid Q&A, she also responded to a fan who asked her whether it was true that Wayne’s parents live with them.

The singer revealed that her parents-in-law, Wendy and Mick, have lived with herself and Wayne, 40, for a ‘few years’.

She said she understands that it is ‘not for everyone’ but said it means they do not have to use ‘outside childcare’ as Wayne’s parents are there to help.

Frankie also admitted that she is very ‘laid back’ so is happy for her family to live alongside Wayne’s parents.

She penned: ‘This has come up a lot. They do. Have done for a few years now. It’s not for everyone.

‘But means we don’t have to use outside childcare. I’m also very laid back.’

Her candid Q&A session comes after Frankie celebrated her 32nd birthday on Wednesday amid the third national Covid-19 lockdown.

She shared a snap from her special day which saw herself and her two sons Parker and Carter blowing out the candles on her birthday cake.

The delicious cake was bright red and decorated with an array of sweet treats, including macarons, and featured a golden sign spelling out ‘mummy’.

The former S Club 8 bandmate celebrated her birthday at home with her husband and two children amid strict coronavirus safety rules across the UK.

In a caption alongside the snap, she thanked her friends for all the ‘birthday love’ and said she felt ‘more popular’ due to all the well wishes she received this year.

Frankie also admitted that her birthday was ‘the same as all’ other days in lockdown – with the exception of eating ‘cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner’.

She wrote: ‘Thank you so much for all the Birthday love yesterday!

‘It was a day the same as all the others in lockdown … but with cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner can’t complain!

‘thanks @waynebridge03 for making it feel as special as possible #birthday #lockdown #love’

Earlier this week, Frankie also candidly spoke about mental health and said she and her husband Wayne only became ‘better’ at talking openly in the past few years.

She said they have only both opened up about what they need from each other when they are ‘feeling a bit down or rubbish’ recently.

She has previously revealed that she had been battling with depression since the age of 15.

And now, she explained that the former footballer, 40, had to learn ‘early on’ in their relationship about how to deal with mental health and is now ‘amazing’ with it.

Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of Lorraine via video link from her Surrey home, she continued: ‘He [Wayne] had to learn very early on in our relationship about mental health and how to deal with it.

‘We’ve been together ten years now and it’s only in the last few years that both of us have got better about talking about our mental health, what we both need from each other at that time when we’re feeling a bit down or a bit rubbish.’

Frankie also said she believes more couples have started speaking candidly about mental health recently, as the amount of people struggling as ‘doubled’ amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Reflecting on her own relationship, she said that she is very ‘lucky’ that Wayne will take over with looking after their children when she’s having mental health ‘dips’.

She explained: ‘I think most couples have had to go through that, even more so recently. The amount of people struggling with mental health has doubled since the pandemic.

‘So I think if people haven’t suffered before, they probably have at some point in some way. We’re all trying to navigate that together.

‘Wayne has been amazing and he’s great with the kids luckily so when I’m having those dips, he can take over.’

And the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant revealed that it has been a ‘really difficult time’ while homeschooling her sons amid the third Covid-19 lockdown.

She candidly admitted that her mood has been unpredictable during the pandemic, saying that some days she ‘really struggles’ while other days she is full of energy.

Frankie told chat show host Lorraine Kelly: ‘I can’t tell you what kind of mood I’m going to be in at the minute.

‘When I’m talking to friends and stuff, everyone’s feeling the same. It’s a really difficult time.

‘It’s hard to rely on other people to tell you what you are or aren’t allowed to do. I’m having to concentrate on home schooling the boys.

‘We’re keeping going. I am struggling but some days I wake up and I’m full of beans and ready to get up and go.’

Frankie is also taking part in Get Moving for Mental Health, a 30-day challenge to get moving every single day to raise money for mental health charity Mind.

She revealed that she decided to take part in the fundraising campaign after realising how much exercise can have a positive effect on her mental health.

The singer continued: ‘You sign up to do a 30-day challenge to move everyday to raise money for Mind. I’m doing it. I do a real mixture of exercise.

‘I really found my groove in the first lockdown. I realised the effect it has on my mental health, now more than ever, we need it. It’s so hard to get that motivation to move. I do all sorts of different workouts.’

Frankie has previously revealed her battle with an eating disorder at the height of her fame with The Saturdays.

The singer told the podcast that watching what she ate while in the band was a form of control, and that a fear of gaining weight, as she had done while expecting her sons, made her question whether or not to have a third child.

Frankie, who was in the band from 2007-2014, said: ‘I had an eating disorder 100% – I was controlling what I was eating. I didn’t eat very much. I always ran on empty.’

Adding that she had ‘no appetite’ and ‘ran on adrenaline’ she said: ‘I knew my role in the band was more about image – who I was dating – what I was wearing more than my vocals. I took that on and took that and ran with it.’

Frankie recently beat the likes of Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and Rebel Wilson to the top of Heat magazine’s annual Fit List honouring inspirational and body-positive women.
