‘In all the years… this has never happened on Catchphrase’: Loose Women’s Brenda Edwards is left red-faced when she BREAKS the studio set

Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards was left red-faced when she broke her buzzer and studio set during an enthusiastic appearance on Catchphrase.

The musical theatre star, 52, who rose to fame on The X Factor in 2005, presses firmly on her buzzer when she thinks she knows one of the show’s famous phrases, before gasping: ‘Oh, I’ve broken it!’

Host Stephen Mulhern, 43, then crosses the studio to assess the damage, noting: “She’s actually not just bust it; she’s actually broken the Perspex!

‘In all the years, I’ll tell you what, not even [former host] Roy [Walker] had to deal with that.’

Brenda insists ‘it still works’ and apologises for the gaffe, as fellow contestants Martin Kemp and Emily Atack struggle to contain their laughter.

Stephen then attempts to continue the show, apprehensive that Brenda may have ‘properly broken the actual buzzer system.’

Last week’s edition of Celebrity Catchphrase was the highest-rated episode of the programme since its launch in 2013, entertaining an average audience of 5.1 million viewers.

Other stars set to appear throughout the current series include Ranvir Singh, Vick Hope, Iain Stirling and Fleur East.

It’s been a busy time for Brenda who is becoming a presenter on Songs Of Praise, a religious series that showcases the talents of Christian church choirs up and down the UK.

She will make her presenting debut on the BBC One show this Sunday in an episode that was recorded before the third Covid-19 lockdown.

Speaking about her new role, Brenda gushed that it was a ‘privilege’ to join the Songs of Praise team, which includes presenters Aled Jones and Katherine Jenkins.

She also explained that she grew up in ‘the church and gospel choir’, saying this experience made her realise the importance of ‘faith and music’ in life.

She continued: ‘It’s an honour and a privilege to join the team at Songs Of Praise in their 60th year.

‘Having grown up in the church and gospel choir, I know how important faith and music is for hope, healing and optimism – three things we all really need in the current climate.’

Celebrity Catchphrase airs on Saturday January 16 at 6pm on ITV and STV.
