Arnold Schwarzenegger wears shirt bearing American flag after powerful statement following riots

Arnold Schwarzenegger was snapped riding an electrical bicycle with a navy blue shirt bearing an image of an American flag in Santa Monica on Thursday.

The ex-California governor, 73, wore a brace on his right elbow and on this left wrist as he was seen pedaling on the sunny winter day in Southern California.

The bodybuilding icon wore dark shades with a black face mask, blue shoes and black shoes as he enjoyed the outdoors in the shoreside area.

Out and about: Arnold Schwarzenegger, 73, was snapped riding an electrical bicycle with a navy blue shirt bearing an image of an American flag in Santa Monica on Thursday

The actor is father to son Joseph Baena, 23, with former mistress/housekeeper Mildred Baena, 59; and sons Patrick, 27, and Christopher, 23, and daughters Christina, 29, and Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt, 31, with ex-wife Maria Shriver, 65. He’s been seen on bicycling outings in Los Angeles with his kids amid the pandemic lockdown.

Schwarzenegger was in the headlines earlier this week after he posted a social media clip condemning those who took part in the January 6 U.S. Capitol riots, as well as President Donald Trump, who he said ‘will go down in history as the worst president ever.’

Schwarzenegger, who served as the Governor of California from 2003 until 2011, compared the invasion, in which five people died, to the Nazi’s 1938 invasion of Jewish homes, businesses and places of worship on Kristallnacht.

‘Wednesday was the Night of Broken Glass right here in the United States … the broken glass was in the windows of the United States Capitol,’ Schwarzenegger said in the clip. ‘But the mob did not just shatter the windows of the Capitol, they shattered the ideas we took for granted. They trampled the very principles on which our country was founded.’

He said that ‘President Trump sought to overturn the results of the election – and of a fair election, and that he sought a coup by misleading people with lies,’ adding that the 45th president ‘would soon be as irrelevant as an old tweet.’

The action star – who detailed his own upbringing in Austria in the wake of World War II – noted, ‘To those who think they can overturn the United States Constitution, know this: You will never win.’

The strong statement drew feedback on both ends of the political spectrum, as some hailed Schwarzenegger’s sentiments while others rejected them.

‘This is one of the most amazing speeches I have ever heard,’ one user wrote, while another said, ‘Superb speech, thank you … Arnold is right – those who colluded with Trump will live in shame forever and rightly so.’

One user said Schwarzenegger went too far comparing Trump and the rioters to Nazis.

‘I’m a liberal, I hate Trump, but at this point comparing them to Nazis is premature, they haven’t done any of the things that Nazis were truly infamous for. Comparing broken windows to slaughtered souls doesn’t hold up,’ the user said.

Another replied, ‘As a [German] citizen who is quite well educated in the history of WWII and how it came to be let me tell you: you are wrong. What the GOP and Trump did and still do, is EXACTLY what the Nazis did to get to power.

‘And once they did, nobody could stop the [tragedy] that ensued.’
