These renderings of twin supertall skyscrapers look like they’re from a sci-fi movie or video game.

Thrillingly, though, the ‘vertical city’ they depict is set to become a reality, soaring to a height of nearly 400m (1,312ft), or roughly the height of the Empire State Building.

It’s called ‘Tower C’ and has been designed by the acclaimed Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) as part of the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base business centre.

The two towers will be ‘tied together by sweeping bridges that give panoramic views of the city’, says ZHA.

At the base will be a terraced landscape covered in aquaponic gardens that extends upwards into the ‘heart of the building’ where cultural and leisure attractions will be housed.

ZHA continues: ‘Tower C’s stepped podium integrates with the [adjacent] park to create a new public space for this dynamic city that has grown to become a global centre of technology innovation.

‘Uniting the park’s landscapes with the civic plazas of the tower’s lower levels provides direct pedestrian access and daylight to the public transport interchange below ground.

‘Prioritising pedestrians, the tower’s design also includes extensive bicycle parking and charging facilities.’

ZHA says that Tower C will incorporate column-free naturally-lit office space, shopping, entertainment and dining amenities, together with a hotel, convention centre and cultural facilities with exhibition galleries.

The firm, which was founded by late British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, sums up the project as ‘a multi-dimensional vertical city’.

The Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base will serve the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, integrating clusters of corporate headquarters within a global technology hub accommodating 300,000 employees each day.
