A ‘top lad’ whose body was found in a Yorkshire flat shortly after he begun a new relationship has been pictured as a woman is arrested for murder.

Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a male’s body at a property in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, on Wednesday.  

Casey Bellwood – who was better known to friends by his nickname Yogi Bear and described as an ‘amazing human being’ – was found dead by paramedics in Francis Lane House, Horsefair, at 4.17pm yesterday by paramedics.

West Yorkshire Police were called and an adult female was arrested with a police cordon remaining in place.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, said: ‘Casey was a top lad and everyone knew him as Yogi Bear.

‘I saw the ambulance arrive on Wednesday and was hoping that it wasn’t anything serious, but to find out Yogi is dead is absolutely heart breaking.

‘I think he had just started dating a new girlfriend in recent weeks. The whole complex of flats is in total shock.’

Casey altered his Facebook page to ‘in a relationship’ last week.

Friend Bethany Wilson said: ‘R.I.P Casey Bellwood you was a top lad you always made me smile and laugh when I was down you give me the best cuddles love you mate so much fly hight up there and I will see you soon….’

Another pal, Keeley Haw, wrote: ‘RIP Casey bellwood can’t believe what I hear you was lovely and one of kind as you was there for everyone and help them too ,my love go out to his family.’

Lee Rew added: ‘The times we had brother the memories can not believe it i remember the time speed boats pulled us out of Pugneys [a local lake] because we got pissed and went swimming in our boxers.

‘Just being around you people could do nothing but laugh you was a amazing human being not seen you in years but still hit me hard r.i.p brother you will truly be missed Yogi Casey Bellwood fly high brother until we meet again.’

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson stated: ‘The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) has this evening launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a body in a flat in the Horsefair area.

‘Police were called by the ambulance service to flats at Francis Lane House in Horsefair, Pontefract at about 16.17 Wednesday after paramedics attended and found an adult’s body there.

‘Initial investigations are ongoing into what took place and a woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident.’

The woman remains in police custody at this time and police are now appealing for information.
