Madonna shares Lourdes with her ex Carlos Leon, who she dated from 1995 to 1997. 

Last year she gushed over her daughter, stating: ‘I’m green with envy because she’s incredible at everything she does…

‘She’s an incredible dancer, she’s a great actress, she plays the piano beautifully, she’s way better than me in the talent department. But she doesn’t have the same drive.’

– Rocco Richie, 20 

 

Rocco is her son with ex-husband Guy Richie. 

They were married from 2000 until 2008. Back in 2016, Guy a bitter nine month custody battle he has been entrenched in with Madonna over where their son should live. 

The Sherlock Holmes director reached a settlement with the pop star hours before they were due in court in New York.

Speaking outside the court Guy’s lawyer, Peter Bronstein, said that the then-16-year-old-year-old would continue to live with his father in London.

Despite the well-publicised battle, things have clearly settled as he enjoyed time with both his mum and siblings. The couple were married from 2000 until 2008

– David Banda, 15 

 

Madonna adopted David in 2006 when he was 13 months old. 

He was born in the village of Lipunga, which is located in Western Malawi, Africa.

She spoke about their similarities, saying: ‘What he has more than anything is focus and determination. I’m pretty sure he got it from me…

‘He’s the one I have the most in common with…

I feel like he gets me; he has more of my DNA than any of my children so far. Let’s see what happens — it’s still early days for everyone’.

– Mercy James, 14

 

Mercy, also from Malawi, was adopted in 2007 when she was four and suffering from Malaria. 

In a stunning display of love, Mercy previously said to her mom: ‘Even though sometimes I’m like, ‘Oh my god, I can’t deal right now.’ But I really love you and I want to thank you for everything, Mom.

‘I know you’re going through a hard time right now with your hip and all the injuries, but I want to say that you’re a really strong person. You deserve everything you want.’

– Stella and Estere, eight 

 

Her twins were adopted from Malawi at the start of 2017.

They lived in the Home of Hope orphanage in Mchinji for two years before their adoption.

When asked what drew her to her kids, she said: ‘It’s inexplicable…

‘Why do you fall in love with the people you fall in love with?’ 

You look into the eyes of somebody, you feel their soul, you feel touched by them — that’s it.’
