He said: ‘[Tom] really shredded himself for the part. He lost 30 pounds, he gained it back. We’re on an independent movie schedule here – he didn’t really have a lot of time to be doing these things.’

The Apple TV+ production was adapted for the screen by Angela Russo-Otstot and Jessica Goldberg, and is set to be released on February 26 in the United States.

In the poignant film, Tom plays a soldier who turns to bank robbing to fund his opioid addiction amid his battle with un-diagnosed PTSD.

‘Even though the film is about coming-of-age and it’s a love story and it’s a war film and it’s a bank robbery film and it’s a drug addiction film, it’s a big melange of a lot of complicated life experiences.

‘But the heart of it is the love story. The heart of it is the relationship between the characters played by Tom and Ciara.’

According to Anthony, the entire emotional arc of the film is ‘hung’ on the relationship between the two main characters.

He said the movie explores their deep connection while they deal with complicated moments of desperation and ‘very daunting circumstances’.
