Star Wars film produced by Kevin Feige to be written by Loki scribe Michael Waldron

Well over a year after it was first announced as being in development, the new Star Wars film from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has found its writer.

As reported by Deadline, the new film is to be written by Michael Waldron, celebrated writer and Emmy winner who is no stranger to Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Waldron, the scribe behind 2022’s sequel Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, had recently signed a deal with Disney, the owner of both the Star Wars and Marvel brands.

Michael also serves as head writer and co-executive producer of the upcoming Disney+ series Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston.

The move to bring these Marvel heavyweights into the Star Wars world is just the latest example of cross-pollination on the part of Disney.

It makes sense, as the MCU has been far more successful at meeting audience expectations as well as generating huge box office numbers in recent years, as compared to the latest entries in the Star Wars saga.

Feige in particular has helped bring Marvel’s Avengers films to the top of the heap, with 2019’s installment Endgame holding the title of biggest-grossing film of all time.

And it seems that he has a soft spot for the Star Wars franchise, as he has apparently taken the reigns from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy for this new era of saga films.

While Disney Investor Day last month announced a plethora of new films and series coming from both the MCU as well as the Star Wars universe, this film from Feige in particular was not part of that list, and should not be confused with the new feature property Star Wars: Rogue Squadron from Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins.

As part of Waldron’s deal, he is also expected to come back in some capacity for season two of Loki.

Waldron started his career off on the adult-themed animated comedy show Rick and Morty, where he won an Emmy as a writer and producer on season four.

Feige’s Star Wars film was first rumored in September of 2019, and at the time, sources claimed the producer/executive had reached to a ‘major actor’ and said there is a specific role he would like that actor to play if this movie is made.
