Daisy Edgar-Jones reveals she cut her fringe after being rejected from acting role

Daisy Edgar-Jones says she cut her fringe after being rejected for a part… but credits hairstyle for helping her to land breakthrough Normal People role

Daisy Edgar-Jones has revealed that she cut her fringe after she lost out on an acting role, but has credited the hairstyle for helping her to land the role of Marianne Sheridan in Normal People.

The actress, 22, has become recognised for her character’s signature fringe in the BBC series, but has confessed that she only got the haircut again after she was rejected from another acting gig.

Appearing on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, she explained: ‘It’s so funny cause my fringe came from a result of like not getting a part I really wanted.

‘And I was so sad and I was like, “Right, I’m gonna do a change, I’m just gonna chop off all my front bits of my hair”.

‘And then after that, I got a job. So I do owe a lot of my career too – I seem to only be able to act if you can only see a partial amount of my face.’

Daisy’s fringe – which even has its own Instagram account – happened to ‘grow out of control’ during the lockdown, which led to the star asking her flatmate to cut it for her while hairdressers across the UK were closed.

She continued: ‘My poor flatmate had the responsibility of cutting it. He did a pretty good job but it definitely went through lots of different stages and now I’m trying to grow it out and that’s stressful enough as it is.’

Daisy also revealed that she suffered from imposter syndrome after finding out she had won the part in Normal People, and had questioned whether they ‘got it wrong’ by casting her.

‘It was bloody terrifying,’ she said. ‘When I got the part, I was very excited. Then I had the fear settle in, the imposter syndrome of thinking, have they actually got it wrong?
