Robert Irwin’s flight above Tasmania’s Overland Track ‘at risk of breaching guidelines’

Robert Irwin’s scenic joy flight above Tasmania’s Overland Track was ‘at risk of breaching environmental guidelines after flying at low levels’

A scenic joy flight believed to have been carrying Robert Irwin above Tasmania‘s Overland Track may have breached environmental guidelines after flying at low levels.

The helicopter surprised campers and witnesses when it circled low over the World Heritage wilderness, reports the Herald Sun.

The 17-year-old son of late conservationist Steve ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin shared a video of himself to Instagram flying over the area at the time observers claimed to have seen the helicopter.

The World Heritage Area Management Plan states: ‘Flights in and through the SAs should be kept to a minimum, and aircraft should be operated at an altitude and configuration that will minimise noise and visual impact for ground observers.’

The general manager of Australia Zoo, Luke Reavley, told The Mercury he wasn’t aware of the incident but emphasised Robert wouldn’t have been responsible for the flight.

‘Obviously being a child under the age of 18, Robert wouldn’t have been in control of where the helicopter travelled,’ Mr Reavley said.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Australia Zoo for further comment.

Robert is currently holidaying in Tasmania with his mother Terri, 56, sister Bindi, 22, and brother-in-law Chandler Powell, 24.

On Sunday, Bindi shared a picture to Instagram of the budding wildlife filmmaker photo-bombing her and Chandler while touring the Apple Isle.

‘Robert, you always make photos that much better. Love ya!’ she captioned the post.

In the picture, the teenager makes a funny face while popping his head into the frame.

Rob’s lips are pursed as he stares directly down the lens of the camera, while Bindi and Chandler smile in the background.

The image of the trio in bushland was also shared by Robert to his own social media account, along another picture of the pair with Terri.
