Kylie Minogue admits her musical featuring a catalogue of her songs is taking ‘forever’ to get off the ground… 12 years after it was first announced

Kylie Minogue has admitted her musical is no closer to opening, more than 12 years after it was first revealed.

In an interview with The Sun on Sunday, the 52-year-old Aussie pop princess confessed work on the project was taking ‘forever’.

‘When I got locked into doing a musical everyone said, “It takes a long time,”‘ she said, as re-reported by the Olean Times Herald.

Work in progress: Kylie Minogue has admitted her musical is no closer to opening, more than 12 years after it was first revealed

‘I remember thinking, “Really? We make albums, go on tour, get things done…” No, it takes forever. It’s a work in progress.’

While not much is known about the upcoming musical at this stage, it’s set to feature a selection of Kylie’s hit songs throughout her stellar career.

Reports first emerged about the musical back in 2008, and while it’s still happening, it’s been slow to get off the ground.

According to a report by The Guardian back in September 2008, the production was described as a ‘jukebox musical’.

Kylie was rumoured to be working alongside Australian-British author Kathy Lette to produce the show.

The musical’s storyline is yet to be revealed, but it’s drawn comparisons to ABBA’s Mamma Mia! and Queen’s We Will Rock You.

Both shows had storylines unrelated to the artists, but drew on the musical catalogues of each band.

While her musical is nowhere near completion, Kylie did manage to record another album last year, but she confessed the chaos of 2020 caused her to question it.

‘I did question, what does this mean? What’s the point? There’s so much happening in the world and there’s no discos open,’ she told The Sun.

'I remember thinking, "Really? We make albums, go on tour, get things done…" No, it takes forever. It's a work in progress,' she confessed
