Anton du Beke calls for ‘brainless’ influencers to be more ‘intelligent’ with their social media presence and not spread misinformation

Anton du Beke has made a call for influencers and reality stars to be more aware of their social media presence and not spread misinformation online.

The Strictly star, 54, appeared on Thursday’s episode of Steph’s Packed Lunch where he discussed the importance of being ‘intelligent’ with online content.

The professional dancer weighed in on cancel culture and admitted it does need to exist in some form in order to combat people such as Donald Trump.

Weighing in on the topic, Anton said: ‘Certainly if you are in the public eye and know that a lot of people look towards you for an opinion…

‘You need to be mature about it and intelligent… don’t put out something like that [COVID misinformation]… that for me is a bit brainless.’

Asked if he thought that cancel culture could ever be ok, he stated: ‘You need to take a stance again Donald Trump and cancel him otherwise you end up with situations like we have in America now’.

Anton’s comments come after former TOWIE star Lauren Goodger told fans she wouldn’t be having the ‘terrifying’ coronavirus vaccine.

Lauren was condemned for her anti-vaxxer views on Tuesday, despite scientists saying vaccination is the best hope for beating COVID-19.

She also claimed she ‘doesn’t believe’ in face masks and likened the virus to a cold.

Vaccinating the population is crucial to ending the coronavirus pandemic because inoculated people will not become ill or die from the virus, reducing the strain on the health service and allowing social distancing restrictions to be lifted.

Explaining her reason for refusing the medically-endorsed vaccine, Lauren previously said: ‘I am more scared of the vaccine than I am of the virus. I will start imagining that I am dying. I am terrified. I don’t like taking medicine. I don’t like taking antibiotics.’

Lauren, who has been open about her use of filler and botox, admitted: ‘OK, I do do aesthetics and even now I am still nervous of that – I am like that in general’, reports the Daily Star.

‘Even with a facial I want to know what is in it. That is my anxiety over the years.

Lauren added: ‘I just feel that it hasn’t been around long enough and we don’t know enough about it.

‘I think I have had Covid and if I was to get ill I would treat it how I would treat it. I didn’t die from it. It is like getting it a cold. I wouldn’t get the flu jab either.

‘I don’t want to inject myself with something I don’t know the longterm effects.

‘I have heard all the different things that are in it and I think I have had Covid already and I have coped with it.’

Lauren insisted that she believed everyone should do what they felt was right, and said: ‘I am not going to say you should not have it. Each to their own. Good luck. That is my personal opinion though.

‘At the end of the day I am not going to talk about it as I know what I know. You can catch a cold, you can catch anything.’

Lauren was branded an ‘imbecile’ by Piers Morgan who questioned why she was uncomfortable with a vaccine but ‘shoves filler into her lips’.
