Lashanna Lynch in final talks to star as Miss Honey in the Matilda musical movie for Netflix
While fans still wait to see Lashanna Lynch and Daniel Craig in the new James Bond film No Time To Die, Lynch has found her next role.
The 33-year-old actress is in final talks to star in Netflix‘s musical film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The production has not yet found the young actress to play the title character at this time, and there is no indication as to when filming may begin.

The musical follows a precocious 5-year-old girl who discovers she has telekinetic powers, which she uses to protect her friends and turn the tables on bullies.
Lynch is portraying Miss Honey, described as a ‘kindly teacher that encourages Matilda and her gifts.’
While Matilda has yet to be cast, Ralph Fiennes was attached to play Mrs. Trunchbull, continuing a tradition of male characters portraying the headmistress.

The character was portrayed by a female in the 1996 movie adaptation, with Pam Ferris taking on the role, but the musical always featured a male actor as Trunchbull, including Bertie Cavell, Bryce Ryness, Craige Els, with Craig Bierko even stepping in as a replacement on Broadway.
The role of Miss Honey represents a significant change as well, with the role played by white women.
Embeth Davidtz portrayed the teacher in the 1996 movie adaptation, with the role played by Lauren Ward, Jennifer Bowles and Carly Thoms in the stage musical.

He will work from an adapted screenplay by original stage musical playwright Dennis Kelly, with Tim Minchin returning to provide original music and lyrics.
The stage musical debuted with a 12-week trial run at the Royal Shakespeare Company in November 2010, before it’s debut on the West End in November 2011 and its Broadway debut in April 2013.

Lynch appeared in a handful of movies like Fast Girls, Powder Room and Brotherhood before her breakthrough debut in 2019’s Captain Marvel.

She’ll next be seen in the highly-anticipated James Bond movie No Time To Die, which is slated for release on April 2.
