The Great Escapists FIRST LOOK: Richard Hammond and Tori Belleci become real-life castaways as they come up with VERY explosive ways to get off a deserted island

  • The Great Escapists will be released on Friday 29th January on Amazon Prime Video

Richard Hammond and Tori Belleci are set to become real-life castaways as they are stranded on a deserted island in the trailer for their new Amazon series The Great Escapists.

The preview shows the duo coming up with innovative ways to get home with little more than their intellect and scrap from their shipwreck.

It seems that while Mythbusters star Tory could come up with an innovative way to get home, Richard struggles to focus on the task at hand as he gets distracted by his ‘cool’ new inventions.

In the trailer, Richard is quick to reference the 2000 film Castaway, which saw Tom Hanks’ character trapped on a deserted island for four years, with only a volleyball named Wilson for company.

The former Top Gear host picks up a batter ball and says: ‘I’m going to call you Clarkson,’ as the trailer reveals he and Tori have been shipwrecked on an island together.

The pair have little more than the battered ship parts to build something that could get them home.

While Tori vows to find a way to leave the island, Richard is distracted by his love for a fast car, building a vehicle that speeds across the sand

As an incredulous Tori asks: ‘How’s this going to help us get off the island?’ a clearly excited Richard replies: ‘It doesn’t – but it’s so cool!’

The trailer then launches into a chaotic montage of the pair attempting to find a way home, and no surprise it leads to some explosive results.

It ends with the pair attempting to leave the island by pedalling a boat across the sprawling ocean.

As Richard asks: ‘When do we start drinking our own pee?’ a disgusted Tory replies: ‘Let’s wait till we run out of water first.’

It comes after Richard and his The Grand Tour co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May surprised fans by releasing their special A Massive Hunt early last month.

In a video posted to YouTube Richard said he was ‘tired’ of being asked when the special would be released, as it saw the trio go on the hunt for pirate gold in the islands of Madagascar and Réunion.

Jeremy added: ‘I’m asked every 25 seconds when is the new special out.’

James went on, ‘Regardless of what you’re talking about, whether you’re on social media, the pub, or the petrol station, “when is The Grand Tour special?”‘

Agreeing with his co-hosts, Jeremy went on: ‘The point is we’ve had this constantly for a year, we’re bored with it, so we decided that it can go out early.’
