‘She cried, I cried!’ Coleen Nolan reveals she broke down in tears of joy when she watched son Shane propose to his girlfriend on Christmas Eve
Coleen Nolan has revealed she broke down in tears of joy when she watched her son Shane Jr propose to his girlfriend Maddie Wahdan.
The TV host, 55, spoke about the heartwarming moment on Tuesday’s episode of Loose Women, saying the family knew beforehand Shane, 32, would be popping the question.
The proposal took place during a game of charades, with the husband-to-be previously describing it as a ‘brilliant way to end a s**t year’.

Coleen recalled: ‘Obviously Christmas was very different but on Christmas Eve my son Shane proposed to his now fiancé, we were playing a game where we had to guess what the person was going to say… she cried, I cried.’
When asked if she knew about the proposal, Coleen said: ‘We did know for a month beforehand, originally Maddie was going to go back to her mum for Christmas when it was tiers.
‘He was behind her and he said, “the ring is down there”.’
The proposal was originally going to take place in Kent but restrictions meant Coleen got to see it happen.

She added: ‘He was going to go back Kent with her for Christmas… but I’m so happy I got to see the proposal.’
Shane previously shared the moment on Instagram, where he asked a series of questions to the Miss GB 2020 finalist with one word answers to form that all important question.
Shane asked the pageant queen: ‘You know if you die – what do you write?’, to which she replied: ‘Will.’
He then asked: ‘It’s not me, it’s…’ Maddie said: ‘You.’
Coleen wrote: ‘We were playing a game where we had to guess what the person was going to say… she cried, I cried’
Shane then took inspiration from Bruno Mars as he sung: ‘It’s a beautiful night, looking for something dumb to do. Hey baby, I think I want to…’
After Maddie replied: ‘Marry you’, the celebrity offspring used the moment to say the phrase: ‘I was just wondering if you wanted to marry me’.
Overcome with emotion Maddie started to cry with Shane asking her: ‘Is that a yes?’
The couple then hugged as they celebrated their engagement.

Shane wrote on Instagram: ‘So I asked, and she said “yes”. What a brilliant way to end a s**t year for not just us, for everyone. Merry Christmas everyone and hope this makes you smile.
‘I love you @maddiewahdan, I promise to be less lazy I also think I need to lose 2 stone . Anyway much love everyone.’
In October Shane declared his love for his other half in a sweet Instagram post, as he shared a stunning snap of his now-fiancee alongside a message.

He wrote: ‘Happy 27th bday to this beautiful woman. She puts up with my s**t and deserves some sort of an award. Have a great day @maddiewahdan. I love you.’
Coleen and Shane Richie married in 1990 and had sons Shane and Jake, 28, before they separated in 1997 and divorced two years later.
The TV presenter is also mother to daughter Ciara, 20, form her marriage to Ray Fensome.
