Weekend Sunrise host Matt Doran reveals how he ‘kept bungling’ his proposal to fiancée Kendall Bora

He announced his engagement to his girlfriend Kendall Bora last week.

But on Monday, Matt Doran, 37, spoke about the proposal and explained how it didn’t exactly go quite to plan.

‘I’m feeling very relieved after a lot of stress in the lead-up. I didn’t sleep for a few days prior cause I kept bungling the plans,’ he said on Channel Seven’s Sunrise.

‘I’ve now been told I’ll have nothing to do with the wedding plans because you can’t even organise the proposal very well,’ he joked. 

Matt announced his engagement to girlfriend Kendall Bora, the executive producer of Nine’s rival breakfast show Weekend Today, on Friday.

The news anchor proposed to Kendall on New Year’s Eve, presenting his girlfriend-of-one-year with a stunning diamond ring.

He announced the happy news on Instagram and explained how he’d made a few unsuccessful attempts to surprise his girlfriend with a proposal before everything came together on Thursday.

He said the proposal had been ‘planned to perfection,’ until the ‘borders shut two days out.’

‘Plan B [also] failed due to a combo of leeches, blizzards, car crashes and a gourmet picnic that was, in fact, canned spam,’ he said.

‘Plan C was fool-proof, until a tech crisis created unspeakable cringe.’ 

‘Despite it all, she still said yes, and I’m now the luckiest man in the cosmos… and officially sleeping with the enemy,’ he wrote, referencing the fact the pair work for rival TV networks.

The couple began dating in 2019 after being introduced by mutual friends, but it was a ‘slow burn’ before things between them developed further.

She was previously in a relationship with I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! host Dr Chris Brown, 42, for about two years, before splitting sometime in 2018.

Matt dated celebrity chef and former MasterChef star Justine Schofield from 2014 to 2017. Justine is now dating retired AFL player Brent Staker.
