The final episodes of Vikings will begin to air next week, after six epic seasons and 89 episodes.

And on Saturday, actress Georgia Hirst – who plays Torvi – hinted that there will be an ‘unexpected’ twist in the climatic final season, as the cast prepare to bid farewell to the show for the very last time.

Georgia, whose father Michael is the show creator, writer and executive producer, told The Daily Telegraph: ‘All I’ll say is that there’s a massive shift in the new season.

‘You’ll just see every character in a very, very different place to where they were last season, and it will be unexpected.’

The end of the drama-filled mid-season finale saw Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) get stabbed in the chest by his own brother, Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh Andersen).

And while Georgia won’t give away whether or not Bjorn may have survived, she did say: ‘I’m sworn to secrecy but what I will say is that the last season is very much about a journey.

She concluded by saying this series would be one of the most exciting to date, adding that ‘there’s no season like it.’

Vikings became incredibly popular as it birthed during the Game of Thrones phenomenon, with actor Travis Fimmel starring as the lead character, Scandi-warrior Ragnar Lothbrok.

The Australian star’s character died in a previous season, shocking the multitude of fans who had grown to love him.

Previously, Travis claims he had never intended to become a TV star, despite finding fame on The History Channel’s Vikings in 2013.

The actor, 41, told GQ Australia: ‘I did a class. I never wanted to be an actor, ever. I still don’t.’

The final season of Vikings will premiere on SBS and SBS On Demand on Wednesday, January 6.
