‘Give up on the straightener for at least 8-12 weeks and you’ll be so impressed with the results. Who would have thought NOT BURNING THE SH*T OUT OF SOMETHING would help it improve,’ she said.

She also goes against everyone who says not to brush curly hair, because she Believes the oil should be brushed through to help achieve the best ringlets.

She finishes her post with a reminder that ‘curly hair is magic’.

HOW CAN I ACHIEVE CURLS LIKE SHONA VERTUE?

1. No towels, dry with t-shirts or air dry your hair.

2. No shampoooo, she says the detergents in shampoo often strip the hair of natural oils which people with curly hair need to maintain the health of the head, hair and curl pattern. ⁣

3. Use a regular leave in treatment. Curly hair is naturally more porous which also leaves it more susceptible to damage and dehydration. ⁣

4. Apply treatments on dry-ish hair (not wet hair). This will help your hair to absorb it more. ⁣

5. Recently coloured curly hair (especially bleached) needs time to readjust. Wet it before you go into the sea, use leave in conditioner and do not straighten it. ⁣

6. Brush it. Not for style, but to help get those juicy important oils from your scalp to the ends. ⁣

7. Apply curl products (creams and or oils) to very wet hair if you don’t like crispy or stick curls.⁣

8. If you’ve been using straighteners, you have to give your hair time to heal before a less frizzy curl pattern will return. Don’t give in. Give up on the straightener for at least 8-12 weeks and you’ll be so impressed with the results.

9. Curly hair is magic. Remember that. Tell your daughters, tell your sons. ⁣
