Olly Murs says another knee injury could END his career and reveals fears over replacement surgery

Olly Murs has revealed that one more knee injury could potentially end his music career.

The pop star, 36, underwent a ‘serious’ knee operation last year which replaced a torn ligament, and the star warned that further injury to his knee could mean ‘curtains’ when it comes to him performing on stage.

In a new interview, Olly also expressed his fears about potentially needing knee replacement surgery, with the star admitting he’s ‘conscious’ about keeping his knee in good shape.

Olly was put out of action after going under the knife in June 2019, before he was rushed to hospital three months later amid worries it had become infected.

Speaking about his affliction, he told The Sun: ‘It’s the arthritis and reconstruction I had in my knee. It’s never going to be perfect, I’ve just got to be careful.

‘If I did my knee again it could be curtains. I won’t be able to dance and perform on stage.’

He went on to explain how if the worse could happen, it could have a huge impact on his livelihood as performing on stage is his ‘bread and butter’ and is what he gets ‘paid to do’.

The Dear Darlin’ hitmaker also opened up about his fears over needing a knee replacement, adding that he’s always conscious that he could hurt his knee again.

He explained: ‘I might need a knee replacement so I’m very conscious to make sure my knee is fit and healthy. It’s always going to be in the back of my mind that if I end up doing my knee again, I might not be able to come back and do my singing.’

In June this year, Olly reflected on the ‘hard’ year following his knee surgery as he shared a video of his recovery journey to Instagram.

Olly admitted it has been a tough 12 months for him, both ‘mentally as well as physically’ and thanked his physio and personal trainer for getting him through it.

The short compilation video showed Olly’s X-rays as well as clips of him regaining his strength with a mix of gruelling fitness training and a range of physiotherapy.

Olly captioned the video: ‘It’s been 12 hard Months after my ACL reconstruction!

‘I can’t tell you how tough it’s been mentally as well as physically but after being told if I didn’t do this I’d need a Knee replacement at 40.

‘So I needed to act! still have a long way to go but wow it feels good! Here is a little short video to show my journey x.

‘Thanks to my incredible physio @johngreenphysiotherapy & the best PT @rob_solly for pushing me and keeping me focused x I owe you both a lot! Thank you xx.’

Last year, Olly made the announcement about his knee surgery on his Instagram, by sharing three posts of himself laid up in a hospital bed.

The star admitted that he would be going off social media for following few months to focus on his recovery.

One of the photo’s showed the hitmaker’s bandaged left blooded leg while a short video displayed his leg secured in a brace from his thigh to his ankle as he balanced on crutches.

Admitting he was ‘putting on a brave face’ for his fans, the Troblemaker singer joked he will be finding it hard to sit still while he recovers from the surgery but is looking forward to the ‘rest’.
