Heidi Klum, 47, reveals the secrets behinds her age-defying physique

Swimming 20 laps a day, trampolining, hula-hooping and parenthood! Heidi Klum, 47, reveals the secrets behinds her age-defying physique

Heidi Klum admits unconventional low-impact exercises have helped her maintain an athletic physique as she enters her late forties.

While many choose structured work-out plans and faddy diets, the German supermodel prefers hula-hooping, trampolining and swimming an impressive 20 laps a day as fun alternatives to the gym.

Speaking to the February edition of Women’s Health UK, Heidi, 47, admitted she had the additional good fortune to live in a house big enough to accommodate her daily fitness routine during lockdown.

She said: ‘I’m fortunate enough to have a pool at home and, when the pandemic started, I began swimming 20 laps a day. Low-impact exercise like this is much better for my joints than running on a treadmill.

‘Hula-hooping is a great low-impact option, too – as is all the trampolining I do!’

The mother-of four also revealed her responsibilities as a parent to children Helene, 16, Henry, 15, Johan, 14, and Lou, 11, contribute to her healthy appearance.

She added: ‘I go running, jump on the trampoline in the garden at my home in LA and do body-weight exercises – including lots of squats. I get plenty of movement from running around after four children, two dogs and a cat.

‘I’ve relished the opportunity to spend more time at home with my family in recent months. Being on a plane and in the studio a lot less means I’ve been able to enjoy getting stuck into domestic tasks.

‘I’ve also been doing painting in the garden with my kids – I was determined not to lose them down the abyss of the internet. It’s a goal I’m shooting for with myself, too.’

Away from fitness, Heidi revealed she has attempted to use her extended time at home resourcefully by being as self-contained as possible.

‘I’ve started a little vegetable patch in my garden,’ she said. ‘Seeing the squashes growing has been really fulfilling, and I have fun with the kids making squash muffins.

‘It’s good for them to see healthy meals made from scratch. Cooking generally helps me wind down.’
