Grant and Chezzi Denyer on their daughter Sailor’s ADHD diagnosis

Grant and Chezzi Denyer reveal how they are coping with their nine-year-old daughter’s recent ADHD diagnosis

Grant and Chezzi Denyer revealed earlier this year that their daughter Sailor, nine, had been diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

And on Monday, the couple gave an update on their daughter’s progress six months after her initial diagnosis.

Speaking on the It’s All True? podcast, the Denyers explained they’d decided to treat Sailor’s condition with medication after doing ‘a lot of research’ into ADHD.

‘We did a lot of research, and we went to a lot of specialists, and we dug super deep before we decided that our only option was medication,’ Grant said.

‘We are fully aware of the judgement that comes with medication, and we are okay with that now.’

The couple said that Sailor had completed a trial at a ‘child development clinic’ and they saw ‘outstanding results’ immediately.

However, Chezzi noted that medication ‘doesn’t work for everyone’, hence why they had their doubts about taking that path with Sailor.

After a period of trial and error, they said they were delighted to see their daughter make ‘astronomical’ progress at home and at school.

‘The difference in her is astronomical,’ said Grant. ‘She has changed so much and improved so much as a little human being.’

‘She is pleasant and happy. She is more relaxed and less anxious, and academically she has absolutely shot through the roof.’

The couple had revealed Sailor’s ADHD diagnosis in September, when Chezzi shared a photo to Instagram of her little girl after her performance at a drama competition.

‘Little Sailor D, couldn’t have been more proud of you this weekend,’ she wrote alongside a picture of the youngster holding her trophy.

Praising her daughter for trying ‘really hard’ and practising ‘so much’, Chezzi spoke of Sailor’s grace in dealing with her ADHD diagnosis.

‘This year after discovering you have Inattentive ADHD and as a family making some big adjustments to help you more with this… your understanding of yourself and the pride you took in overcoming your fears gave you so much more confidence up on the stage,’ she wrote.

Chezzi and Grant also share another daughter, four-year-old Scout. They are expecting a third child early next year.
