The Masked Singer’s Sophie Ellis-Bextor says THREE judges guessed she was Alien

‘I knew I’d been rumbled’: Sophie Ellis-Bextor reveals THREE of the judges guessed she was Alien on The Masked Singer… but it was cut from the show

She became the first celebrity to be eliminated from the new series of The Masked Singer on Saturday.

But Sophie Ellis-Bextor has revealed that she knew she had been ‘rumbled’ on the series after three of the judges quickly predicted that she was Alien.

Viewers were not surprised by Alien’s identity after guessing it was the Murder On The Dancefloor hitmaker, 41, due to her ‘distinctive’ voice and the ‘easy’ clues.

No surprise there! Sophie Ellis-Bextor has revealed that she knew she had been ‘rumbled’ on the series after three of the judges quickly predicted that she was Alien

And Sophie admitted that the judges – Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall – threw her name into the mix, but it was cut from the final edit.

She told The Sun‘They didn’t put it in the edit but three of the judges said my name as well, so I already knew so I’d been rumbled.’

Unfortunately none of the judges stuck with her as their final answer, with Lily Allen, Anna Cooper, Sophie Dahl and Brenda Blethyn instead making the cut.

The singer attempted to disguise her recognisable vocals while singing Dua Lipa’s Dont Start Now, but said that even her 23-month-old son Mickey guessed it was her.

Sophie quipped that her other four kids – Sonny, 16, Kit, 11, Ray, eight, and Jesse, five – asked her ‘why on earth’ she bothered putting on a ‘weird accent’ on the show.

She continued: ‘My kids found it absolutely hilarious that I put on such a weird accent, they were like “why on earth did you do that?”‘

But Sophie admitted she was ‘quite surprised’ that everyone easily guessed she was behind the mask, as she thought she’d done ‘quite a good job’.

She explained: ‘You want to have a recognisable voice if you’re a singer but I felt like I’d done quite a good job so I was quite surprised.’

The pop star, who is married to Richard Jones, was forced to unmask by the judges on Saturday after finding herself in the bottom three alongside Badger and Swan.

After her true identity was revealed, Sophie said: ‘You’ve crushed my mascot theme!’ before she added: ‘Hopefully my kids will be quite surprised’.

But following her elimination, Sophie shared a selfie on Instagram as she posed next to her Alien mask and admitted her children were not fooled.

She wrote: ‘Even my one year old pointed at the telly and shouted “mummy!” when I started singing in the alien suit!

‘Anyhoo a fun and trippy way to spend a few days and enjoy the rest of the show- no idea who anyone is!’

While fans correctly guessed Sophie was Alien, many have also speculated fellow contestant Robin is JLS star Aston Merrygold.

The Masked Singer airs on Saturdays at 7pm on ITV.
