Gary Ablett Jr’s wife Jordan shares heartbreaking post as she mourns the loss of her mother

AFL star Gary Ablett Jr’s wife Jordan lost her mother, Trudy Papalia, in August after she succumbed to lung cancer.

On Thursday, the brunette beauty shared a heartbreaking poem to Instagram as she marked her family’s first Christmas without her.

Alongside the post, Jordan reflected on 2020, and her beloved mother, who she dearly misses. 

‘After the year that has been, I’m thinking of everyone this Christmas,’ she began. 

‘I’m particularly thinking of those who are grieving and who are feeling far from merry. My heart breaks with yours… 

‘As hard as this Christmas will be, I know my Mum would want nothing more then for love, joy and peace to surround us three girls, her daughters and to fill our hearts this Christmas.

‘I hope and pray the same for you!’ she ended the touching post. 

It’s been a challenging year for Gary and wife Jordan. 

After Trudy lost her battler with cancer in August, the Abletts revealed their 22-month-old son Levi was diagnosed with a ‘rare degenerative disease’. 

In October, Jordan, who is an ambassador for the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity, spoke candidly about the challenges she’s faced over the past year raising a son with a rare disease, as well as losing her mother to cancer.   

‘I know first-hand how complex it is and how it’s a completely different parenting experience, though still so rewarding,’ she told the Herald Sun. 

‘I feel privileged to be entrusted with such a precious responsibility, and to care for Levi, who needs us and who we love so deeply and fiercely.’

She and Gary have had to make regular trips to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne as part of their child’s treatment.

‘Having also lost my mum recently to cancer and having a child with his own health battles, I can really relate and appreciate how essential this level of support is,’ Jordan said.

Jordan and Gary welcomed in January 2019. The couple tied the knot back in 2016.
