Ryan Reynolds says his kids ‘won’t see their grandparents this year’ amid the pandemic

He’s making hard choices for the holidays in order to keep his family safe.

And Ryan Reynolds shared his thanks with other families who have canceled their holiday plans this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has been surging to alarm levels throughout the United States in recent weeks.

The 44-year-old 6 Underground star shared a simple text post with his 36.7 million followers on Saturday to applaud the compassion of many of them.

Ryan, who shares three young children with his wife Blake Lively, 33, posted a simple black-and-white text message to his Instagram Stories.

‘My kids won’t see their grandparents this year for Christmas,’ he confessed.

‘Or friends or aunts and uncles. It sucks,’ he added.

The Deadpool star concluded the short message by writing, ‘My hat’s off to so many others doing the same.’

Ryan and Blake, who married in 2012, share a six-year-old son James, a four-year-old daughter Inez, and their youngest daughter Betty, one.

The couple didn’t initially announce Betty’s name, but eagle-eyed fans of their friend Taylor Swift realized that she had slyly revealed the name by giving it to one of the characters on her surprise album Folklore.

Back in July, Ryan joked with The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon about how all the time he’s spent with his children during the pandemic will affect them later in life.

‘Frankly, I think it sets a dangerous precedent Jimmy,’ he joked. ‘When we look back at this years from now, they’re going to think about me and how I used to be a present dad….’

‘It’s actually been amazing,’ he said, dropping his usual jokey demeanor. ‘I’m trying to let myself appreciate it as much as possible because there’s so many people around the world that this isn’t a good thing, it’s causing a lot of anxiety for a lot of people. So I’m trying to let myself appreciate the face time with the family and spending as much time as possible.’

On Wednesday, Ryan upped his trolling game by targeting Blake when he tagged her in a hilarious fake PSA urging new mothers to avoid ‘d**ks’ after giving birth.

The actor joked that he shouldn’t tag his actress wife in the playfully foul-mouthed video from parenting company FridaMom — even though he included her Instagram handle in the comment.

The video was posted by the FridaMom account, which shares helpful postpartum information while sometimes put a humorous spin on the advice.

In addition to avoiding the anatomical kind, the two professionals also urged new mothers to avoid other kinds of ‘d**ks,’ like the ‘Thoughtless D**k’ who ‘comes to visit and gives zero f**ks how mom is doing and is only interested in the baby.’

Ryan jumped into the video comments, writing, ‘I’d tag @blakelively but I’m afraid that might not go well for me.’

Ryan may have been trying to get back at Blake after she left him out of her list of her four favorite things from Vancouver, Canada, which she shared on her Instagram Stories earlier this week.

The first things were all desserts from the West Coast city, but she saved the fourth entry for… another dessert.

‘… Who did you think I was gonna say??’ she joked in her caption about leaving her husband off the sweets list.

Fighting words: Ryan usually feuds with celebrities like Hugh Jackman or Chris Hemsworth, who called him 'a d**khead' and 'the world's least-favorite Canadian' earlier this month

Ryan is usually focused on feuding with his fellow celebrities and on-screen superheroes, like Thor’s Chris Hemsworth, who called him ‘a d**khead’ and ‘the world’s least-favorite Canadian’ in a video from earlier this month that is intended to help their charitable fantasy football league.

She also scorch him by calling him ‘everyone’s least favorite Australian.’

‘And as a reminder, Hugh Jackman still exists,’ she joked, referencing her son’s even longer-lived feud with the Logan star.
