Liam Neeson surprises nursing staff at Melbourne hospital by sending flowers and ‘much love and respect’

Liam Neeson has been in Australia filming his new action flick Backlight in Melbourne‘s outer suburbs since early November.

And on Thursday, the 68-year-old Irish actor took time out of his busy schedule to surprise frontline workers at a Melbourne hospital with flowers.

‘To all you lovely Aussie and Irish nurses. Thinking of you all. Much love and respect, Liam Neeson,’ read a handwritten note which was sent along with flowers.

Royal Melbourne Hospital’s nurses were thrilled at the gesture and shared images of the surprise package on the hospital’s Facebook page.

‘I will find you…and I will…treat you,’ they playfully wrote underneath the photo, in reference to his 2008 hit action film Taken.

‘Liam Neeson is filming a movie in Melbourne and was kind enough to send in some flowers to our Acute Medical Unit, which was a COVID-19 ward this year. Thanks Liam, from all of us starstruck at RMH!’

It comes just days after the film’s producer Paul Currie said Liam hasn’t been able to do any sightseeing during his visit so far.

Because of strict COVID-safe protocols on set, the action star is seeing more of his hotel room than the sights of Melbourne.

‘He hasn’t had time to go out to restaurants or anything like that, and we can’t let him out anyway,’ Currie tole The Age.

Liam was seen on the set of the film last month, wearing a protective face mask to limit the spread of COVID-19 as he stepped out of his trailer to meet an awaiting film crew.

The star spent two weeks in hotel quarantine in Sydney after arriving from overseas.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that he completed his two-week mandatory self-isolation over the weekend before flying to Melbourne.

Liam’s new action flick is set to bolster Australia’s film industry and bring hundreds of jobs to local Victorians in the aftermath of Melbourne’s draconian second COVID-19 lockdown.
