HBO Max subscribers and Roku users are about to get an early Christmas gift on Thursday, with the streaming service finally arriving on the Roku set-top box.
The WarnerMedia streaming service, which launched in late-May, had deals with every other major ‘over-the-top’ service provider, with Roku the last holdout.
After months of negotiations, HBO Max will finally arrive on Roku starting Thursday, just over a week before the streaming service debuts the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 simultaneously with theaters.

Roku was seen as the last big gap in HBO Max’s coverage, with Roku boasting over 46 million active accounts, as of September.
The deal with Roku was believed to be a priority for WarnerMedia, as they hoped to land a deal before the Wonder Woman 1984 debut on Christmas Day.
For Roku users who have already subscribed to HBO through the device, it will automatically be updated to the HBO Max app starting on Thursday.
Gap: Roku was seen as the last big gap in HBO Max’s coverage, with Roku boasting over 46 million active accounts, as of September.
For Roku users who don’t have HBO Max, they can find it in the “New and Notable” and “Movies & TV” categories of the Roku channel store to add it to their Roku home screen, which they can pay for using Roku Pay.

After Wonder Woman 1984’s big debut on Christmas Day, HBO Max subscribers will have full access to Warner Bros.’ 2021 slate when it’s released.
Among the 17 movies arriving next year through the studio are the highly-anticipated sequel The Matrix 4, Mortal Kombat, The Suicide Squad and Space Jam: A New Legacy.
Other films include Judas and the Black Messiah, Dune, In the Heights and The Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark.
