Sunrise host David ‘Kochie’ Koch meets his granddaughter from Perth for the first time… after being kept apart since her birth due to Covid-19
There were emotional scenes for Sunrise host David ‘Kochie’ Koch as he reunited with his Perth-based daughter and her family on Tuesday night.
And on Wednesday, the 64-year-old shared several photos and video to Instagram of the special family moment.
David and his wife, Libby, were joined at Sydney Airport by their children and grandchildren as they greeted Brianna Jayasinghe and her children, Jax, Teddy and baby Ella, at the gate after their flight from Western Australia.

In a video, the family members can be seen running into each other’s arms and greeting each other with hugs and kisses.
It was the breakfast TV host’s first time meeting his eight-month-old granddaughter, Ella, whom he had been unable to see until this week due to border closures.
Kochie wrote: ‘When Poppy met Ella. Eight months ago, Ella was born in Perth.’

Reunited! He also shared a family photo, showing them dressed festively and holding up welcome signs, along with the caption: ‘There was so much love… actually’
‘Last night she came home for Christmas with Brie, Jax and Teddy,’ he said, adding that his son-in-law CJ would be joining the rest of the family in the coming days.
‘And just like the movie it was love at first sight,’ he concluded.
He also shared a photo of the Koch family dressed festively and holding welcome signs, along with the caption: ‘There was so much love… actually.’
Kochie’s sweet moment with Ella comes after his wife, Libby, met the newest family member last month during a visit to Perth.

Kochie was unable to go to Perth due to work commitments, but said seeing his wife meet their latest grandchild was the ‘definition of happiness’.
‘A grandma seeing her grandkids for the first time in seven months because of border closures,’ he told his social media followers.
Kochie had previously expressed sadness over not being able to meet his grandchild when his daughter Brianna gave birth to the baby girl back in April.

He shared a gallery of photos to Instagram at the time of the mother of three and her newborn daughter.
‘Welcome to the family, Ella Hope Elizabeth Jayasinghe, you gorgeous little girl,’ Kochie wrote alongside the pictures.
‘Grandchild number six, born in Perth and devastated we can’t be there for a cuddle.’
