Lisa Wilkinson couldn’t resist taking a sarcastic swipe at former Prime Minister Tony Abbott during Wednesday’s episode of The Project.

The 60-year-old TV host was talking about Abbott’s return to politics, which has involved a rigorous fundraising campaign.

‘I’m so excited, I can’t even speak, guys,’ she commented sarcastically.

As the 63-year-old former politician campaigns to win back the federal seat of Warringah in Sydney’s north, his team has come up with an innovative plan.

Fans of Abbott can win a surfing session and breakfast with Abbott or a high tea with former 2GB radio host Alan Jones.

Lisa joked that while many people would be excited for breakfast with pop star Tones and I, they’d have to settle for the other ‘Tones’, referencing Abbott.

The Liberal Party is auctioning off tickets, with one ticket going for $50, five for $100 or 12 for $200.

‘She knows what to get Pricey for Christmas now,’ joked fellow panelist Peter Helliar, referencing conservative radio host Steve Price, who often appears on The Project.

Abbott lost his seat to Independent MP Zali Steggal in the 2019 election, but is determined to win it back.

‘Enjoy an all-inclusive harbour cruise or a weekend away, morning tea with a legendary broadcaster, or even a surf lesson and breakfast with a former Prime Minister,’ reads the raffle purchase page.

According to the Liberal Party, the prize with Abbott is valued at $2,500, while a brunch with Jones is estimated to be worth $3,000. 

Winners will be drawn on February 24, but the Liberal Party said they are ‘able to duplicate the prize for those interested in making a private bid’.
