Emily recently detailed how her stint on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here in 2018 changed her life when she was ‘feeling lost and had no money’.

Speaking to Alison Hammond on new podcast My Life in TV, the actress who soared to fame playing Charlotte Hinchcliffe in The Inbetweeners, detailed how roles were dwindling when she grew out of her ‘school girl’ stage.

Having recently launched her eponymous show and scooped a role as team captain on Celebrity Juice, Emily’s career is now soaring and she puts her success down to her career-saving and life-changing jungle stint.

Emily was a popular addition to I’m A Celeb in 2018 and went on to front the sister show I’m A Celeb…Extra Camp with Joel Dommett and Adam Thomas last year.

After garnering a host of projects in the wake of her successful stint in the jungle, she has now spoken about both her time before and after I’m A Celeb.

She said: ‘I’d been typecast as a blonde girl next door type. I was getting a bit older, things were getting a bit lower down. Those roles stopped coming in…

‘I couldn’t play the sexy school girls anymore, the femme fatal sexy girl with the stockings on who seduces the male lead. It all dried up for me.’

On how she struggled with taking the news, she went on: ‘I took it personally. In this industry it’s easy to take things personally. I had no money and I was all heartbroken from a relationship. I was a bit lost in life…

‘I felt I wasn’t getting the jobs I should have been getting, all the jobs I would have got three or four years earlier. I really just hit a wall with everything. I thought, ‘I need some excitement in my life again, I need to pick it up.’

In the lead up to the jungle she struggled before her life changed for the better: ‘That particular time, just before the jungle, I found really difficult. I felt a lot of rejection but I think the jungle helped me overcome it, definitely…

‘That show changed my life in so many ways. It changed my career, it changed the way I looked at myself. It didn’t really change me, it reaffirmed the person I thought I’d lost. I’d lost so much confidence in myself…

‘I’d lost so much hope for my career and for myself as a person. I was in a really bad place and reminded me of who I was. Rather than change me, it helped me dig deep to find the person I thought had gone.’

Gushing about her I’m A Celeb stint, she then added: ‘I can’t explain how grateful I am to the jungle for helping me rediscover myself I guess.’

On her hopes for the future, Emily revealed; ‘“I’d love my own sitcom and that’s a goal. People seem really obsessed with my dating life and all that kind of thing…

‘If I was to create a sitcom it would have to be authentic to me and my life, maybe bring back the rom com vibe?…

‘I’m a big sucker for romance. I’m a huge romantic, I’m a hopeless, pathetic romantic. I’d love to create a sitcom that captures that again, a lovely, love storyline.’
